The New York Rangers won their sixth straight postseason game, defeating the Carolina Hurricanes 4-3 in double overtime of Game 2 to take a 2-0 series lead.

Vincent Trocheck scored the game-winning dagger at 7:24 of the fifth frame after he snuck a loose puck through the legs of Carolina netminder Frederik Andersen, sending Madison Square Garden into a frenzy:

Here's how we got to that point:

Alexis Lafreniere scored his first goal of the playoffs at 10:53 of the first period, beating Carolina goalie Frederik Andersen short side:

K'Andre Miller and Alex Wennberg assisted on the play:

Jake Guentzel evened the score up at 1-1 just a few minutes later at 15:07 of the first after he deflected a Sebastian Aho one-timer:

The Hurricanes got their first lead of the series with six seconds remaining in the first period as former Rangers defenseman Brady Skjei threw a puck at the net that Dmitry Orlov then tipped past Shesterkin:

The Hurricanes headed to the first intermission with a 2-1 lead over the Rangers.

Lafreniere potted his second goal of the game at 7:22 of the second period to tie the game at 2-2 after Adam Fox found him for a back-door tip-in:

The Hurricanes regained the lead on Guentzel's second goal of the night at 18:18 of the second. Aho recorded his third assist of the game, finding Guentzel in the slot, who buried the feed home:

The Hurricanes led the Rangers 3-2 heading into the third period.

Chris Kreider knotted the game at 3-3 with a power-play goal at 6:07 of the third. Trocheck sent a shot at Andersen, and Kreider cleaned up the rebound:

Skjei took a tripping penalty at 18:22 of the third to give the Rangers a late power play, but the Hurricanes were the more dangerous team, with Shesterkin turning aside a few shorthanded chances.

This game would need two overtimes before Trocheck won it for the Rangers on the power play at 7:22 of the second overtime frame for the 4-3 win.

Shesterkin was phenomenal, making 54 saves on 57 shots.
