New York Rangers goaltender Igor Shesterkin partook in the shootout contest at the 2024 NHL All-Star Skills Competition, facing off against New York Islanders forward Mat Barzal.
Barzal chose to face off against Shesterkin to entertain the fans at home watching on Friday night.
"It was more so that he plays for the Rangers & I knew people back home would be watching," he told reporters after the event. "He obviously has a relationship with [Ilya] Sorokin, so I thought it'd be fun if I picked him for the New York fanbase"
The Rangers and Islanders will meet on Feb.18 for the 2024 Stadium Series at Metlife Stadium, the second time both teams will face ogg against one another outdoors.
This shootout event kicks off the second half of the NHL season featuring three matchups between the clubs, the Islanders fighting to make the playoffs and the Rangers hoping to play the way they had to open the season.
