One of The Maven's favorite hockey sayings goes like this:

"The Little Things Mean A Lot."

It's the antithesis of a highlight reel.

Could be nothing more than a timely poke check or an energetic back check that breaks up an enemy assault.

During this latest New York Rangers winning streak I noticed two plays that fall under the

"Little Things Mean A Lot" category. Here they are:

    1. VERY VESEY: Mister Jimmy Underrated is a master of "Little Things" turned into big deals.

Take for example the 2-0 win over Calgary. Let's face it, this was a one-goal game with Calgary still within reach of tying the contest.

The Flames had pulled their goalie and defenseman Noah Hanfin began launching a counterattack. Meanwhile, Vesey chased the Flame down the ice although Hanfin beat Jimmy to the puck and then tried to skate past the Ranger.

But Vesey made a tremendous defensive play, nabbing the puck. With a nifty spin-around maneuver he fired the biscuit into the empty net. blowing out the Flames. The "New Old Reliable," Jimmy Vesey.

    2. A KAYO FOR KAAKO: Full credit to Will Cuylle for scoring the game-winner against the Flames but where would Will have been without Kaapo Kakko?

It was Double K's initial drive to the net and shot on goal which initially created havoc in front of the Calgary net. Only after Kaako's effort was Cuylle able to pot what eventually proved to be the game-winner.

    Proving what?

That "The Little Things" do mean a lot!

The Maven is telling you this but Vesey and Kakko brought it to reality.
