The Rangers' frustrations continued to boil in their 6-2 loss to the Oilers.
The New York Rangers dropped their second consecutive game, losing to the Edmonton Oilers 6-2 on Saturday night in convincing fashion.
The Rangers came into the game flat and there is no other way to put it.
In the first period, Edmonton bombarded New York with 21 shots as the Bluehsirts were completely outplayed.
The speed of Connor McDavid and the Oilers was just too much for the Rangers to handle. Edmonton generated a ton of odd man rushes with New York playing lackluster defense.
To start the second period, the Oilers continued their dominance and all of the sudden, the Rangers found themselves down 4-0.
Throughout the night, the Rangers just played without a sense of passion and intensity. For the second game in a row, their opponent "outworked" them, a term Peter Laviolette used to describe the team’s Thursday night loss to the Calgary Flames.
While the Rangers hold a 12-6-1 record, their play has not been at the level of a Stanley Cup contender and they are creating bad habits for themselves that are really beginning to show.
The Rangers have all the talent in the world, but right now there is something fundamentally off with the team and these issues need to be addressed.
Defensively, New York continues to struggle while the Rangers are not generating enough chances offensively to take pressure off of Igor Shesterkin and Jonathan Quick.
The Rangers will be back in action on Monday night against the St. Louis Blues.
