The New York Rangers improved to 21-7-1 on the season with victories against the Anaheim Ducks and Boston Bruins this weekend. Five players stood out in the team's 8th back-to-back set of the season-
Chris Kreider: The conversation of retiring the number 20 has resurfaced again following this weekend. Kreider notched his 500th career point, and 100th power-play goal, and ascended to 3rd in club history in goals passing Adam Graves. He now has 16 tucks in 29 games this season.
Alexis Lafreniere: Lafreniere has not recorded a point in 5 games, but his play when he's not producing sticks out. He's not cold, but rather snake-bitten. His hockey sense, creativity, and drive were fully displayed in Boston. In years past he was invisible if he wasn't on the scoresheet—so this is a positive development.
Vincent Trocheck: No.16 became the sixth player in club history to tie a game in the last 10 minutes and score the overtime-winning goal. Trocheck has been everything and more for the Rangers this season. He scored his first goal in 6 games to tie things up and potted his third career overtime goal and first with the Rangers to seal the deal. In doing so, he lifted the Rangers to a 2-0-0 record against the other top team in the east (Boston).
Adam Edstrom: A last-minute roster addition, a first NHL goal, and a rookie lap in your 2nd NHL game? It is one of the most unique rookie stories you'll ever hear. Edstrom was sent back down to Hartford last night, but he had a strong showing in his NHL debut on Friday. The 23-year-old threw the body, played 9 comfortable minutes of NHL hockey, and capped it off with the first rookie debut goal at MSG since Lias Andersson in 2018. What a story.
Igor Shestekrin: After 3 losses in a row and a sub-.850 save percentage in those games, the franchise goalkeeper made 21 saves on 22 shots against the Bruins. It is a breath of fresh air and something to build off of for the Rangers Vezina-winning netminder, who is often too hard on himself.
