A lot of Ranger fans haven't been happy over the years with the way that the team's draft picks have developed, but the 2018 22nd overall pick, K'Andre Miller, has turned into quite the homegrown defenseman.
Miller has been an absolute pleasure to watch thus far in the first three years of his young NHL career. He continues to improve year in and year out, as he set many career highs in the 2022-23 season.
There is no doubt that when this two-year contract ends, Miller will be looking to sign a massive ticket, but in the meantime, he will continue to log up ice time at even strength, along with the penalty kill. And who knows, maybe he will get some time on the second power-play unit this upcoming season.
Miller has shown a ton of offensive ability, in key moments as well. At times he is guilty of thinking a bit too much offensively, but with his powerful stride and long reach, most of the time he is able to recover.
Let's remember that it was in fact the play he made in Game 7 against the Penguins which led to Artemi Panarin's series-winning overtime goal.
It can be assumed that Miller will once again be slotted on the left side of the Rangers captain, Jacob Trouba, and he will continue to learn from the team's leader, not only on the ice but away from it.
Miller has always spoken very highly of his defensive partner and the two of them will hopefully be able to complement one another the more they play together.
Or perhaps, Coach Laviolette might have the courage to pair Fox and Miller together, I'm sure everyone would love to see that. Personally, I don't think it's a great idea, but I know a lot of fans would think differently.
Either way, this is an incredible deal for the Rangers and once this contract is up, Miller is most likely going to have a long-term deal waiting for him.
The ceiling is extremely high for K'Andre Miller.
