Our favorite rabble-rouser, former NHL Heavyweight Champion -- the Blue Jackets Mathieu Olivier has the title now -- The Rousing Remper could be in trouble.
It's all because of GM Chris Drury's Trade Deadline machinations.
Whether or not new arrival forwards Nic Petan or Jack Roslovic dress for tonight's meeting with St. Louis at The Garden does not matter.
What concerns the Rempe Marching and Chowder Society -- of which The Maven is a loyal member -- is Matt's future with the new faces on coach Peter Laviolett's roster.
With these just arrived forwards now residing on Seventh Avenue between 31st and 33rd Streets, it could very well be that Rempe's days as a Ranger regular are numbered.
Remember your target -- The Stanley Cup.
It could be that Drury imported Petan and Roslovic because Chris knows that when the playoffs begin he'll need a better and more experienced fourth line than Rempe's current unit.
Let's face it folks, a few more of Rempe's boxing bouts may give us all a thrill but they won't mean diddely-squat if the fourth line doesn't measure up against what the opposition tosses out on the ice at playoff time.
I'm not saying Matt is getting the gate; at least not yet.
But Rempe's rooters should take The Maven's words as food for thought.
