Try to solve this Rangers related riddle.
As an avid reader over the years, there's one thing that The Maven has learned – always read the book's foreword.
This point was underlined the other day when I read "Game Winners – The Greatest Game-Winning Goals In Hockey History."
Authors Matthew Blittner and Russ Cohen had the good fortune of having ex-Ranger center Peter Stemkowski write their forward.
Renowned for his rich sense of humor, Stemmer spun an interesting tale of his trade from Detroit to the Blueshirts.
And as I read Peter's narrative, it suddenly dawned on me that there was a riddle in his report. (I defy anyone to get it right within a day.) Here goes.
Stemkowski's penalty minute total was relatively low as a Red Wing. But as soon as he became a Ranger his PIM numbers soared. What was the reason?
Okay, okay, I'll answer it right now – in Peter's own words:
The short answer is THE LONG ISLAND EXPRESSWAY. The long one: "I was driving to The Garden from Long Island every day. And if you've ever been involved in New York traffic; I was taking MY ROAD RAGE OUT ON PEOPLE ON THE ICE!"
