Dan Hamilton-Imagn ImagesThe latest member of the Rangers Alumni Association to make headlines is Manny Malhotra.
He's now head coach of the Vancouver Canucks and, for that, he deserves a Purple Heart well in advance and prayers in several languages.
Longtime Rangers fans will remember Manny as one of the club's all-time disappointments. He was drafted seventh overall in 1998 because the brass thought Malhotra was the second coming of Mark Messier.
Manny lasted a mere four years as a Ranger. The only notable thing The Maven recalls about Manny was a fight he had with fading Devils defenseman Ken Daneyko.
To his credit Malhotra won the fisticuffs and enjoyed a few stints with other NHL clubs, but he never came close to fulfilling his early notices.
An awfully nice, savvy guy, Manny deserves our kudos for having the guts to run the contemptible Canucks.
