The New York Rangers acquired Carson Soucy, Juuso Parssinen and Calvin de Haan before the NHL Trade Deadline.

Now, all three players are expected to be healthy scratches on Saturday night against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

New York received Parssinen as part of the trade that sent Ryan Lindgren and Jimmy Vesey to the Colorado Avalanche.

Rangers president and general manager Chris Drury had been interested in acquiring Parssinen for months as they really believed in his potential and upside.

The team also strongly felt that Parssinen could jump right into the lineup and play center.

However, the 24-year-old forward only played in four games and wasn’t able to make a strong enough impression before being benched for the past three games.

The Rangers also acquired de Haan from the Avalanche as sort of a defensive place-holder for Lindgren.

After three games though, de Hann found himself in the press box and hasn’t been back in the lineup.

The Rangers have a healthy defensive core now, which will make it difficult for de Hann to secure a regular spot on New York’s blue line.

Drury went out of his way to trade for Soucy from the Vancouver Canucks in order to add more defensive depth for the playoff push.

Soucy’s connection to Will Borgen on top of his steady defensive play made him an enticing pickup for the Rangers.

With Adam Fox set to return from an upper-body injury and Zac Jones at the top of his game, Peter Laviolette will scratch Soucy on Saturday night.

Drury had high hopes for Soucy. He not only envisioned the 30-year-old defenseman helping the Rangers now, but he believed Soucy could be a prominent piece for the future.

“We think there's a lot of possibilities with Carson, whether it's (pairing) with Schneids or Foxy or Will (Borgen), or even having him on the right side at some point. We'll see how it plays out. I'm glad we were able to get him. I was excited about the term, excited about the number. He's not a rental. He’s someone we could have in for the rest of the year and next year. I just like the overall game – the size, the skating, the sense, how he defends. We were able to do some homework on him the last couple weeks and we’re excited to get him with a piece we got in the Reilly Smith trade.”

It’s unclear whether this benching is temporary or Soucy will be forced to fight for a permanent spot in the lineup.

Nonetheless, it’s certainly not a good sign that the three players Drury acquired to help bolster the team are on the outside looking in.
