Chris Kreider’s name has been floating around in trade rumors for practically the entire season.
Things heated up in the days leading to the NHL Trade Deadline as Vince Z. Mercogliano of USA Today reported that there’s a growing possibility of a divorce between Chris Kreider and the Rangers.
Kreider was ultimately not traded by the Rangers before the trade deadline. While he is safe from any move for now, it isn’t easy to hear your name in trade discussions.
However, Kreider has tried not to focus on all of the outside noise with his main focus on propelling the Rangers into the playoffs.
“I'm not privy to that information,” Kreider said of the trade rumors via Mollie Walker of The New York Post. “I worry about what's right in front of me and right now it's Winnipeg. Happy to be here, enjoyed my time here and I'll continue to try to help this team win hockey games.”
The 33-year-old forward recently returned to the lineup after missing six games with an upper-body injury.
Kreider’s name first sparked up in trade rumors when Rangers president and general manager Chris Drury sent out a league-wide memo in November indicating he’s open to making moves to shake up the core while specifically mentioning Kreider.
It’s unclear if Drury’s desire to deal Kreider will reignite over the offseason.
