David Quinn will rejoin the New York Rangers organization, but this time as an assistant coach under Mike Sullivan.

From 2018-21, Quinn served as the Rangers head coach before being relieved of his duties by Rangers president and general manager Chris Drury.

After his departure from New York, Quinn became the head coach of the San Jose Sharks a position he held from 2022-24 and he most recently was with the Pittsburgh Penguins as an assistant coach under Sullivan.

Shortly after the Rangers' hire of Sullivan became public, it was reported by ESPN’s Emily Kaplan that Quinn would not join the Blueshirts’ coaching staff.

With the Rangers losing both Michael Peca and Dan Muse, the team had coaching vacancies on their staff they had to fill and Quinn’s relationship with Sullivan likely helped him land this gig.

Joe Sacco and Ty Hennes will fill out the remainder of the Rangers coaching staff with their official titles still unclear at the moment.

Through his three seasons with the Rangers, Quinn posted a 96-87-25 record while only making a qualifying-round appearance in the 2020 bubble playoffs.
