During Tuesday night's game we saw the best and worst of The Remper

Matt Rempe is mired in a conundrum.

The Rangers Skating Steeple knows that he's the undisputed people's choice among Big Apple ice fans. But he also knows that he's not necessarily his coach's choice — and wouldn't spare forward Jonny Brodzinski love to take that spot away from Matt The Bat.

During Tuesday night's game we saw the best and worst of The Remper.

The Best was Matty leading all Rangers with hits — seven. The Worst was Rempe taking an unnecessary roughing penalty. The Caps power play capitalized and scored.

An impartial scout shook his head as in "That's a No-No" and then explained:

"If Rempe wants to stay in the lineup, foolish penalties must be taken out of his equation. Two penalties in two games will not make Peter Laviolette happy."

Matt inevitably loves to get the fans going with a big hit and the zebras love to penalize gratuitous bops worthy of a two-minute minor.

In the case of Tuesday's conundrum, Rempe's Rangers won the game and Matty learned another lesson.

The Maven expects him back in the lineup for Game Three because Lavvy invariably wins with this guy skating — and hitting — for him.

Plus, I know that The Remper can figure this all out in his favor; for one pure and simple reason: He's not only a big one but also a smart cookie!
