This former Rangers forward has retired from professional hockey.

The NHL Alumni's X account announced on Thursday that former New York Rangers forward Ryan Spooner has officially retired from professional hockey.

Spooner retiring comes shortly after he signed with HK Dukla Trencin of the Slovak Extraliga for the 2026-27 season. He played in just five games with the Slovak club this season before retiring, where he posted one goal and four points.

Now, after a brief stay in Slovakia, Spooner is ready to hang up the skates. He spent each of the last eight seasons of his professional career overseas, where he had stints in the KHL, National League, and Slovak Extraliga.

Before having a long career overseas, Spooner spent played seven seasons in the NHL from 2012-13 to 2018-19. He spent some of his time in the NHL with the Rangers, where he had mixed results.

The Rangers acquired Spooner from the Boston Bruins during the 2017-18 season as part of the Rick Nash deal. From there, Spooner had a strong start to his Rangers tenure, as he posted four goals and 16 points in 20 games.

However, his second season with the Rangers in 2018-19 did not go to plan. He posted just one goal and one assist in 16 games for New York that season. From there, he was traded to the Edmonton Oilers in November of the 2018-19 season for Ryan Strome, which ended up being a home run deal for the Rangers.

Spooner struggled with the Oilers and ended up being traded to the Vancouver Canucks in February of the same season. Following the season, he would be bought out by Vancouver and then started his overseas career.

In 36 games over two seasons with the Rangers, Spooner recorded five goals and 18 points.
