Rarely did Gilbert indulge in fisticuffs but one night he traded punches with Bill Lesuk of the Boston Bruins.
After the game reporters gathered around Rod in the clubhouse inquiring about the fight.
"He hit me on the head with his stick," Gilbert calmly explained, "and he didn't apologize!"
