The Rangers marketeers and assorted other promoters did an admirable job saluted Sam Rosen for his 40 professional years as the Rangers broadcaster.
As a former colleague of Rosen, I was an upfront admirer of his work over my years doing telecasts. Plus, I commend those who suggest that a Rosen banner be hung from the MSG rafters.
EXCLUSIVE: A Ringing Endorsement of Mike Sullivan From A Penguins Reporter
The hire of Mike Sullivan as the latest Blueshirt coach has inspired all kinds of speculation in Rangerville.
The problem here is that Rosen will have to get in line before I'll endorse Sam ahead of the man who belongs at the front of the banner line.
That would be Frank Boucher; a Hall of Famer, sparkplug of Ranger Stanley Cup victories in 1928 and 1933 as well as coach of the 1940 Cup-winner.
As Rangers manager in the post World War II era, Boucher rebuilt a broken farm system, launching the Guelph (Ontario) Biltmores of the OHA Junior League.
In time the Bilts would send future Hall of Famers Harry Howell and Andy Bathgate to the big club. Boucher's Junior club in Quebec delivered another Hall of Famer, goalie Lorne (Gump) Worsley, via the Verdun Cyclones.
I could go on and on hailing Boucher but my point is made; there is no other personality more deserving of the next banner-raising than this remarkable man.
What's more, I'm sure Sam Rosen will second my motion!
