Jacob Trouba said on Tuesday that he suffered a broken ankle in March.

Through the New York Rangers’ playoff run to the Eastern Conference Final, Jacob Trouba was dealing with a major injury.

During New York’s exit interviews on Tuesday, Trouba had a chance to talk with the media and revealed something that the public did not know.

The Rangers’ captain said that he suffered a broken ankle in March, but was fully cleared for the playoffs.

“It wasn’t weight-bearing so he could walk but skating with tight turns didn’t feel good,” NHL.com’s Dan Rosen wrote via X. “He was limited at times by it, but he emphasized that it is not an excuse for anything.”

Trouba also emphasized that it was a “kidney bean sized chunk” that came out of his ankle at the time the injury occurred.

Over the course of 16 playoff games, the 30-year-old defenseman had one goal, six assists and seven points.

It was evident that Trouba looked a bit slower in the playoffs and this ankle injury could have played a factor.
