Jacob Trouba was all business during the New York Rangers first day of training camp.
After everything that went down with trade rumors this summer, Trouba addressed the media for the first time and immediately made clear on what really went down with him this summer.
"A whole lot, a lot of words," Trouba said on what happened this summer. "I had good communication with the organization throughout. Don’t really have much else to comment on. There were a lot of things that were said and snowballed. I don’t know you are going to have to figure out where they came from. If you find out, let me know."
After a flurry of reports that came out about Trouba and his murky future with the Rangers, the 30-year-old defenseman seemed eager to rip off the bandage and put this whole situation to bed during his interview.
There were rumors about the Rangers looking to trade Trouba and his frustration with the organization because of all of it, but Trouba wanted to set the record straight on his actual feelings.
"I love living here. I love New York. My family loves it here, as everybody is now aware of," he said. "I'm happy to be here and excited to be back."
A big thing of contention that caused a big stir was when Trouba sent in his 15-team no-trade list.
Something that most people don’t know though is Trouba was fully expecting to do this even before this drama boiled over the surface.
"I don't think there was any animosity throughout the whole thing. Per my contract, I owe the list to them on June 30th. I knew that was coming. I think that's a pretty standard part of contracts when a no-trade list has to be submitted. There's a date that has to be done by. It's just standard contract business," Trouba said.
While trades are not easy, it’s a part of the game and Trouba knows that, which is why he claims there are no hard feelings between him and the Rangers organization.
"I knew that was coming that summer. It's not by surprise. It's part of pro sports. I can get traded now. I know that. I knew that when I signed the contract that at this moment that I could get traded," Trouba said. "So, there's no difference in how I act or approach things. A lot of people in the NHL can get traded at any time and that's part of the business."
Now that Trouba has addressed the situation, hopefully this whole saga is over and he can go back to focusing on what is really important.
