Since the New York Rangers fired Peter Laviolette, Jessica Campbell is a name that has been floating around as a potential head coaching option.

If Campbell were to get this job, she would make history, becoming the first woman to become an NHL head coach.

The big question is if Campbell has a chance at landing the Rangers’ head coaching gig.

While there aren’t specific reports or sources linking Campbell to the New York, she has ties to the organization as Rangers president and general manager Chris Drury brought her in to coach at their 2022 prospects development camp.

Since retiring from playing hockey in 2017, Campbell has coached at multiple levels, including internationally and in the American Hockey League.

After serving as an assistant coach for the Coachella Valley Firebirds, Campbell was hired to be the assistant coach of the Seattle Kraken in 2024, becoming the first woman to work full-time behind an NHL bench as a coach.

With the Rangers in need of a drastic culture shift after missing the playoffs, the 32-year-old could be a dark-horse candidate to jump-start that change.

We’ll have to see what direction Drury decides to go in, but keep your eyes out for Campbell.
