Jonathan Quick recorded his second consecutive shutout en route to a 2-0 Rangers victory over the Kraken.
The New York Rangers defeated the Seattle Kraken 2-0 on Sunday night with Jonathan Quick recording his second consecutive shutout.
Peter Laviolette made a commitment to start playing Quick more in order to help give Igor Shesterkin some rest, and that strategy has been working out.
Throughout the contest, Quick made multiple key saves, breathing momentum into the Rangers and frustrating Seattle’s offense.
The 38-year-old goalie stopped all 24 of the Kraken’s shots. Just think about it, he is yet to give up a single goal in two whole games. That’s impressive as Quick continues to prove his worth to the Rangers.
Meanwhile, the Rangers played a much more balanced game.
The Blueshirts were steady defensively in terms of their lack of turnovers and composure in their defensive zone.
It was clear that the Rangers were not trying to overly force anything offensively, which oftentimes lead to turnovers, a problem New York has had all season.
The trio of Artemi Panarin, Alexis Lafrenière and Vincent Trocheck was a problem for Seattle’s defense all night long.
New York’s most explosive line possessed the puck in the offensive zone constantly while generating a ton of high quality scoring chances. Panarin gave Lafrenière a perfect feed for the winning goal, with these two players continuing their impressive start to the season.
Zac Jones also scored his first goal of the season in the third period. The young defenseman is really starting to hit his stride and etch his mark with the team.
The Rangers play next on Tuesday night against the Vancouver Canucks.
