One by one, insiders close to the Rangers are opening up with revelations about the dissension-riddled team's dismal 2024-25 season. To say the least, the negative comments are disheartening.
That, by the way, not only is for the past but also the present and future. Virtually every player on the present roster is involved in the critiques.
The first revelation was made by MSG Networks long-time analyst Joe Micheletti who – after he retired – cited the team's "lack of spirit" as at the core of the season-long problems. (And Joe was emphatic about that.)
Now we have former Rangers assistant coach Michael Peca opening up in an interview.
Peca, who left the team to work for the Chicago Blackhawks, made it seem in the interview that Blueshirts players kept hissing and moaning about outside issues such as management's treatment of Barclay Goodrow, captain Jacob Trouba and Chris Kreider among other factors.
"There was a lot of stuff outside of the locker room and the coaches' room," said Peca. "We said, 'Guys, don't worry about it, you've got to play hockey.'"
Peca suggested that there was "A lot of stuff" as well as a loss of focus. The coaching staff was "managing emotions" and "trying to clean up the debris."
Putting Peca's thoughts together you wind up with a vision of a very mixed up team; one that seemingly carried its "mishugunuh" hang-ups through the season.
Likewise, that negative atmosphere could account for the "lack of spirit" theme accented by Micheletti.
The Absolute Last Words About Matt Rempe As Rangers Savior
The Maven has said all there is to say about Matt Rempe; simply this: if properly utilized by new coach Mike Sullivan, the Not-So-Gentle Giant could be a meaningful asset.
Peca never alluded to the possibility that Rangers-MSG sports shrinks might have helped cure the Blueshirt funk nor did the former assistant coach state his reason for leaving the team.
But between thePeca and Micheletti interviews, we're left with the impression that the combined 2024-25 Rangers needed a giant cranium screwdriver to get their collective heads on straight.
(P.S. Who'll be the journalist to get fired coach Peter Laviolette to open up about the "lack of spirit" and the matters unloaded by Michael Peca!)
