Mika Zibanejad participated in his first practice with the New York Rangers on Friday afternoon since coming back from the 4 Nations Face-Off.
Zibanejad served as the first-line center for Team Sweden in the 4 Nations Face-Off as he relished the opportunity to represent his country.
“Any time you’re going to represent your country, it’s going to be different,” Zibanejad said. “I don’t think you can compare that to anything. To play with the best players out of Sweden and the best players out of those countries, it’s awesome.
“We haven't had the opportunity to do this in quite some time now, but getting an opportunity to play in the Yellow jersey is always fun and always special.”
Team Sweden lost two games in overtime, but won their last game against Team USA. Zibanejad did not play in the final matchup due to an apparent illness.
Playing in this recent tournament has made the 31-year-old forward eager to participate in the 2026 Winter Olympic Games in Milan. He feels Sweden has something to prove.
“The result didn’t really go our way,” Zibanejad said about team Sweden at the 4 nations Face-Off. “I think in terms of the team we have with team Sweden and some of the guys that weren’t with us, I think a lot of excitement for next year.”
Zibanejad recorded one goal in the 4 Nations Face-Off while averaging over 20 minutes in the two games he played in.
