The New York Rangers will start their 100th season in grand fashion.
Opening night of the 2025-26 NHL season is set for Monday, Oct. 7, when the Rangers are set to take on the Pittsburgh Penguins at Madison Square Garden.
Rangers’ new head coach Mike Sullivan will square off head-to-head against his former team, as he coached the Penguins from 2015 to 2025.
During his 10 years with the Penguins, he won two Stanley Cups and coached the likes of Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, and Kris Letang.
In May, Sullivan signed a five-year deal worth $6.5 million annually, surpassing the previous record set by Mike Babcock’s $6.25 million salary with the Maple Leafs for the richest coaching contract in NHL history.
After Sullivan’s departure, the Penguins hired former Rangers assistant coach Dan Muse to be their head coach, who will be returning to Madison Square Garden with something to prove.
