Here are seven reasons why new Head Coach Mike Sullivan will help the Rangers turn the tide:

    1. He transformed a mediocre and underperforming Pittsburgh Penguins team when he got hired in December of 2015.

    2. He is a two time Stanley Cup Champion. After getting hired by the Pens, Sullivan led them to consecutive Stanley Cup Championships in 2016 and 2017.

    3. This isn’t his first go around with the Blueshirts. He served as an Assistant Coach from 2009-2013.

    4. Having been a coach in the Metropolitan Division for the last decade will benefit him with his new team, especially strategically.

    5. He is widely regarded as one of the best coaches in the NHL. Sullivan coached Team USA during The 2025 4 Nations Face-off and was also named Head Coach for the 2026 USA Olympic Team.

    6. He has an experienced coaching staff. Sullivan worked with David Quinn - former Rangers Head Coach, 2018-21 - and Ty Hennes in Pittsburgh. Joe Sacco is also a former NHL Head Coach.

    7. A fresh start. Sullivan found success in Pittsburgh, now it’s time to find it in The Big Apple.
