Stan Fischler On Rangers Cup Chances

The Maven Stan Fischler has 10 points he wanted to make after the Rangers' Game 5 loss:

1. On any given night, Adam Fox is the best defenseman in the National Hockey League, Norris Trophy or not.

2. But Foxy has not looked 100 percent healthy, and -- if that's the case -- look for the Canes to try to make Adam even less healthy on Monday night.

3. There's some dispute about whether the MSG crowd or the Raleigh audience makes the most noise, or does it matter?

4. The Maven said that, yes, it does matter because crowd noise could nudge the refs to call a penalty against the other club.

5. And it WAS a late third-period penalty to Ryan Lindgren that led to the Canes winning -- power-play -- goal.

6. In his post-game seance last Saturday night, Peter Laviolette said, "The first goals we gave up were pretty noisy. They were loud."

7. Pardon me, coach, but I still don't know what "noisy" and "loud" have to do with goals. Or does he mean "lousy" and "bad?"

8. Referring to the Canes' first three goals, Jacob Trouba said, "From that point on, I thought the forwards played well."

9. I've read the captain's quotes over ten times, and it seems as if he was not crazy about the way his forwards played at the start.

10. I wonder what his forwards thought of Jake's second-period turnover or D-man Erik Gustafsson's puck mishandling in the third.
