After defeating the Avalanche 3-2 in Colorado Thursday, the Blueshirts now have their eyes on setting some organizational records before the regular season is through.
To say the New York Rangers have played well this season is an understatement. The Blueshirts have exceeded all expectations -- and show no signs of slowing down.
Taking out the Avalanche 3-2 in Colorado Thursday, the Rangers secured their 49th win of the season, and now have their eyes on setting some organizational records before the regular season is through.
Following a disappointing first-round playoff exit last season, coupled with the departure of star players, Patrick Kane and Vladimir Tarasenko, along with the season-ending injury to Filip Chytil, there were serious doubts about the Rangers ability to achieve this level of success this season. But thanks to Head Coach Peter Laviolette and a continued TEAM effort, the Rangers have smashed those doubts, and sit proudly as the NHL's top club.
The Rangers consistent performance throughout the season, has earned them 102 points and 49 wins, with just nine contests remaining. They’re not only the leaders-of-the-pack to win the Presidents Trophy (NHL's team with most regular season points), they are on track for some incredible team history.
Having been an NHL franchise since 1926, the most points the Blueshirts have ever amassed in one campaign totaled 113, achieved by the 2014–15 Rangers. That season they also set the win-record at 53. Now only eleven points and away, this season's version of the Rangers have a chance to eclipse the mark.
If this current Rangers team can secure six victories out of their last nine games, or obtain 12 points of a possible 18, they will have earned more points in one season than any other Ranger team. Of course with five wins, they would set the new win-record at 54.
Incredibly, of the nine games remaining on the Blueshirts' schedule, only one team (Philadelphia) is currently sitting in a playoff spot. Six of the nine will be on home-ice at MSG.
