The New York Rangers terminated Nick Bonino's contract on Tuesday. The veteran forward was waived on Jan. 25 and was allowed to decide what he wanted to do by the club.
The two-time Stanley Cup Champion chose not to report to the Hartford Wolf Pack, resulting in contract termination.
Ironically, he was born in Hartford, Connecticut.
Bonino has skated in 868 NHL contests with the Anaheim Ducks, Vancouver Canucks, Pittsburgh Penguins, Minnesota Wild, San Jose Sharks, and New York Rangers.
The 35-year-old skater recorded five points (one goal, four assists) in 45 games this season. He leads all NHL forwards in blocked shots with 78, leading the second-best forward in the category by 21 blocks.
When the Rangers initially waived Bonino, it signaled that the club would do anything to win.
