Despite some financial complications, the Rangers could be a team to watch out for in the Patrik Laine sweepstakes.

There has been a lot of speculation on where the Columbus Blue Jackets will trade forward Patrik Laine.

Teams including the Pittsburgh Penguins, Montreal Canadiens. Colorado Avalanche and Buffalo Sabres have all been linked to Laine.

However, The Daily Faceoff’s Frank Seravalli believes that the New York Rangers is a team that makes sense for the 26-year-old forward.

“They don’t have the cap space, but what about a team like the NYR? I could see [Laine] fitting on the right side. That would make a ton of sense to me,” Seravalli said.

Laine would certainly provide high offensive upside and serve as a weapon for the Rangers’ already explosive power play.

Trading for Laine is a difficult task for the Rangers at the moment as the team cannot afford to take on his $8.7 million cap.

In order for any trade between the Rangers and Blue Jackets to happen, Columbus would have to eat up some of Laine’s salary causing the Rangers to give up more assets in a potential deal.

This past season, Laine recorded six goals, three assists and nine points in 18 games while averaging 15:13 minutes.
