He may be known for fighting, but Peter Laviolette continues to see Matt Rempe improve upon his offensive game.

When people think about Matt Rempe, it’s his physicality and fighting that comes to mind.

However, over his short time with the New York Rangers thus far, his offensive game has steadily improved.

Rangers coach Peter Laviolette was asked if he’s seen a progression in Rempe’s offensive game and he had a positive response.

“I have, I noticed it in practice,” Laviolette said. “I notice it in games. He is still a young player who is working that and building towards that. I think the more he plays, the more experience he gets, the more comfortable he will get with that. When I watch him out here from when I watched him at training camp, there is a big jump, there is a significant jump.”

In Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Final, Rempe arguably had his best game of the playoffs from an offensive standpoint.

The 21-year-old generated a couple scoring opportunities and was overall more noticeable, which is a positive sign.

Rempe provides a valuable physical presence, so if he can just continue improving upon his offensive game, the enforcer will see his role increase.

He sometimes is a liability due to his lack of speed and limited scoring ability, but the progression that he is showing through practices and games is something that Ranger fans should be excited about.

Rempe has played in three out of the four games of New York’s third round series against the Florida Panthers as Laviolette’s confidence in the enforcer seems to be growing.
