Legendary defenseman Shea Weber was elected to the NHL Hall of Fame this summer.
Peter Laviolette coached Weber for a couple of seasons with the Nashville Predators and could tell right away that he was the real deal.
“He was a great leader and great player for the time I was with him in Nashville. He was just a powering defenseman. Played the game hard at both ends of the ice, great leader, great person, so that’s believable,” Laviolette said on if he knew Weber would be in the Hall of Fame.
Through his 16 seasons in the NHl playing for the Nashville Predators and Montreal Canadiens, Weber recorded 224 goals, 365 assists and 589 points.
It was no shock to Laviolette that Weber was a first ballot Hall of Famer.
“I was fortunate to coach him, fortunate to be a part of that so that doesn't surprise me,” Laviolette said.
Weber will be joined by Pavel Datysuk, Jeremy Roenick, Natalie Darwitz, Krissy Wendell-Pohl, Colin Campbell and David Poile as part of the Hall’s Class of 2024.
