1. Ex-Ranger Mike Rupp is one of the few network tv analysts to have the courage to push for Joe Quenneville as next Rangers coach.
2. All signs suggest that Q has a "nix" in front of his name in New York but could latch on elsewhere.
3. Now that he's going-going-gone from the Canucks, Rick Tocchet will get some consideration from Chris Drury.
4. J.T. Miller will be in Tocchet's corner but Rick's record hardly is eye-popping. Nonetheless, Miller's support could be decisive.
5. Virtually every Ranger came up lame in the postseason media moments when it came to saying something really nice about Peter Laviolette. That is, with one key exception. (I'm still waiting for Laviolette to talk; and talk tough.)
6. Matt Rempe, who didn't exactly get much ice time from Pistol Pete, went out of his way to laud Laviolette for personally giving him pointers on how to improve.
7. The Maven felt like giving Chris Kreider the "Blue Cross-Blue Shield Award" for hissing and moaning about all his injuries.
8. My Blue Collar Blue Shirts buddy Sean McCaffrey wonders whether Kreider thinks the injury talk will dissuade teams from trading him out of his beloved New York.
9. Sean gets a Maven "Best Line Prize" for this one: "Take a look at any workforce in the country and only these Rangers seem justified in not showing up for work!"
10. George Grimm's Rangers "MDP" (Most Disappointing Player) picks: Mika Zibanejad, Alexis Lafreniere, Chris Kreider and Adam Fox. Grimm: "I gave Igor a pass because in most cases a goalie is only as good as the team in front of him."
MAVEN'S REBUTTAL: Nonsense. With a record of 27-29-5 – 2.89 and .905 – the guy didn't deserve a salary increase of any kind!
