The Eastern Conference playoff matchups are set, and the New York Rangers face the Washington Capitals.
After a chaotic night in the Eastern Conference Wild Card chase, the New York Rangers know their foe to start their chase for the Stanley Cup -- the Washington Capitals.
The Capitals earned the final playoff spot after defeating the Philadelphia Flyers 2-1. Alex Ovechkin broke the ice in the first period, but Erik Johnson answered for the Flyers in the second.
However, amidst chaos in the Detroit Red Wings' game with the Montreal Canadiens, John Tortorella pulled his goalie with Philadelphia needing a regulation win to stay alive in the playoff race. However, the move backfired as T.J. Oshie found the empty net to finish a 2-1 win and punch Washington's ticket to the dance.
Against the Capitals, the Rangers went 2-2-0 in the regular season, with the home team winning in each game. The two teams last met in a back-to-back set in January, with Washington taking home a 3-2 win at CapitalOne Arena and the Rangers besting Washington 2-1 at Madison Square Garden.
This will be the 10th time the teams meet in the playoffs, The Rangers have a 5-4 series record against the Capitals in the postseason, most recently overcoming a 3-1 series deficit to knock them out of the Second Round in 2015.
An official schedule for the series has yet to be released, but sources say that Game One will likely be on Sunday.
