Zac Jones reportedly has been given permission to speak to other teams about a trade.
Zac Jones is the latest New York Rangers player to be the subject of trade rumors.
NHL insider Frank Seravalli provided some insight into Jones’ frustrations and also dropped a bombshell on what could come next for the young defenseman.
“Jones has sat for six straight games as a healthy scratch and the Rangers have given him permission to speak with other teams to seek a trade,” Seravalli wrote. “His frustration was apparent in his comments last week, a well-liked competitor who is looking for opportunity.”
This all comes after Jones has been a healthy scratch for a large part of the past two seasons and he finally voiced his displeasure for it all.
“It (expletive) sucks, it (expletive) sucks,” Jones told Larry Brooks of the New York Post. “It’s frustrating when you think you’re doing some things well, and it’s just, you just keep getting taken out, taken out, taken out. I just feel like I’m rotting away a little bit.”
Seravalli adds that despite showing some potential, Jones’ 5’11’’ frame could impact his trade value in a negative way.
“Jones can move well and has offensive instincts, but his undersized frame has created some limitation in the market,” Seravalli wrote.
The 24-year-old is averaging 16:42 minutes per game when he’s been in the lineup while serving on the second power play unit.
