After a disappointing couple of years playing in North America, the Rangers' 2018 second round goalie Olof Lindbom is headed to Finland.

New York Rangers goalie prospect Olof Lindbom is signing a one-year deal with the Pelicans of the Finnish Liiga with a one-year option.

The Rangers selected Lindbom with the 39th overall pick in the 2018 NHL Draft. Despite being the first goalie taken off of the board, Lindbom hasn’t lived up to expectations.

After playing a few years in Sweden’s second-tier pro league, Lindbom signed his entry-level contract with the Rangers in 2022.

The 23-year-old has spent the last three seasons playing in the ECHL with the Jacksonville Icemen and Cincinnati Cyclones while spending stints in the AHL with the Hartford Wolf Pack.

He failed to play in the NHL for the Rangers and was not able to sustain a consistent role as a part of the Wolf Pack.

This past season, Lindbom had a .884 SV%, 3.56 GAA, one shutout and a 10-15-3 record in 29 games with Cincinnati.

Technically, the Rangers could retain his NHL rights if they issue him a qualifying offer before June 30, but that seems unlikely at this point in time.
