J.T. Miller is set to make his return for the Vancouver Canucks against the Florida Panthers on Thursday night.
This comes after Miller took an indefinite leave from the Canucks on Nov. 19 due to personal reasons and has not played since.
A couple of weeks ago a report from The Athletic came out stating the Rangers had inquired about the possibility of trading for Miller.
“A league source said the Rangers recently inquired with the Canucks about J.T. Miller, who is currently on an indefinite leave of absence,” Arthur Staple and Peter Baugh of The Athletic wrote. “Miller was a 2011 first-round pick by the Rangers and has been coveted by Drury before — the Rangers were after Miller before the 2021-22 trade deadline, but wouldn’t include Braden Schneider in a deal. Miller then signed a seven-year extension worth $8-million a year, pulling him off the market.”
Canucks president Jim Rutherford made clear that he has no intention of trading Miller and seemed displeased by the trade speculation.
“No, we are not [trading him],” Rutherford told Postmedia. “We stand by him.
“Don’t start making stuff up on someone in his situation. That’s disrespectful. People that do this for fun, or for a living, just go back to making up trade rumors.”
The 31-year-old had a career year last season as he recorded 37 goals, 66 assists and 103 points in 81 games.
