The New York Rangers’ Monday practice was one like no other.
After taking part in the usual drills, Peter Laviolette switched things up, making the players scrimmage in four-on-fours and then transitioning to three-on-threes.
The Rangers have only played once in overtime through 11 games this season, but it’s always good to get the extra practice for when the time comes again and it will.
“We always work on it. It happened last year, it’s happened this year, whether it’s meetings or video, going on the ice and working on it,” Laviolette said. “Coming off of that game, it was something to make things more competitive, three-on-threes, four-on-fours, even breakaways.”
The Rangers ended practice with a shootout competition, which brought up a lot of fun emotions and competitive energy.
Almost every player got a turn to try and score in the shootout. Once the competition was over, the winning group celebrated like they won a playoff elimination game.
Through the midst of the season, the Rangers still always find a way to enjoy themselves and bring a joyous spirit to practice.
This friendly competitive vibe is something this New York team has displayed since the start of training camp and it’s truly heartwarming to watch.
