The Rangers high command now includes MSG boss Jim Dolan; GM Chris Drury and coach Mike Sullivan.
Here's what a few members of The Maven's Expert Panel are thinking about the Blueshirt blundering.
The Missing Farewell Speech of Peter Laviolette
Normally, when a significant hockey personality leaves his job – fired or otherwise – it's customary for that person to deliver a farewell address, good or bad.
TOP SCOUT JESS RUBENSTEIN: "The Rangers need leadership at the top who realize that the franchise is in very bad shape. They failed to make the playoffs; ditto for the AHL Wolfpack. The prospect pipeline has just nine players in it. A well-run franchise needs three-times that to be competitive."
GEORGE GRIMM, AUTHOR OF 'WE DID EVERYTHING BUT WIN'. "As currently constructed, the Rangers are a bunch of overpaid underachievers supplemented by spare parts and castoffs from other teams. The only players who made an effort in the past season were the kids who didn't have the security of one of those fat contracts to fall back on. The Rangers need more players like Will Cuylle who was drafted by Jeff Gorton."
VETERAN MEDIA PERSONALITY WHO REQUESTED ANONYMITY: "Sullivan is another buddy-buddy hire and a long way from those Stanley Cups won with Crosby and Malkin in their primes. I loved Jeff Gorton and was very sorry to see him go. The Rangers nucleus never materialized. There were things like the Chytil concussions; Lafreniere underachieving, Kakko being overrated while Fox took a step backward. They should have hired Joel Quenneville!"
