New York Rangers president and general manager Chris Drury may have a trick up his sleeve.
According to Peter Baugh of The Athletic, the Rangers are interested in signing explosive Russian forward Maxim Shabanov.
Kevin Weekes of ESPN reported that the Rangers, Philadelphia Flyers, Utah Mammoth, and New York Islanders are the favorites to land Shabanov.
Shabanov is an elite offensive talent in the KHL as he’s coming off of a season where he recorded 23 goals, 44 points, and 67 points in 65 games for Traktor Chelyabinsk.
The 24-year-old finished with the third-most points in the KHL during the 2024-25 season.
While Shabanov stands at just 5-foot-8, 157 pounds, his dynamic offensive skill set has caught the eye of NHL teams.
