The New York Rangers reportedly have their eyes on a specific defenseman once the free agency period officially begins on July 1.

According to Arthur Staple of The Athletic, if Rangers president and general manager Chris Drury can clear enough cap space, the team could look to go after Vladislav Gavrikov.

Gavrikov has been a staple for the Kings’ blueline over the past three seasons and is set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer.

The Rangers obviously don’t have a ton of cap space to work with as of right now, but questions about the future of both K’Andre Miller and Chris Kreider have led to a sense that there could be some major changes in terms of personnel.

New York’s defensive core was arguably their most glaring weak point on the roster, and adding a player the likes of Gavrikov would certainly help make matters better.

The 29-year-old has averaged over 20 minutes throughout every season since the 2021-22 campaign.

That sort of steady play is exactly what the Rangers need and Gavrikov could clearly provide it for them.

Keep your eyes out for Gavrikov and the Rangers come July 1.
