Some Rangers thoughts following their win over the Senators.

IRREVERENT THOUGHTS ON RANGERS OUTING OF OTTAWA

* Yeah, Igor Shesterkin enjoyed a 41-save win and that fattens his chances to get the most obese contract of any NHL goalie, and good for him.

* But once again he wins against a flub team. Ottawa was picked to finish seventh in The Atlantic Division.

* Shesty couldn't beat Florida, couldn't beat Washington. Let's not go nuts until he beats the biggies.

* What matters is that the main men delivered. Big Al Lafreniere is earning his big dough and never seems to have a bad game.

Stan Fischler talks about Matt Rempe.

* The Breadman continues to be a loosey-goosey lamplighter.

* For the most insightful quote of the night The Maven awards a wooden medal to Lafreniere for this: "We know we can play better?"

* That's the point: New York's defense was porous, but so what? That's what big-shot goalies are for and Iggy bailed them out as you'd expect from the third-best goalie in the league.

* With Jimmy Vesey's imminent return – Islanders visit tomorrow afternoon – it will be interesting to see who survives on the fourth line.

* I'd be surprised if fading "Sideshow Charlie," Matt Rempe goes in against the Isles unless Peter Laviolette wants to see another Matt Rempe-Matt Martin rumpus on the campus.

* Vesey-Sam Carrick-Adam Edstrom makes sense.
