Battling over whether the Rangers should go for the playoffs or tank.
I don't ask anyone to agree with me. What I ask is "Read me and see if we agree."
So, my pal Jess Rubenstein read my column yesterday. I stated that the Rangers playoff-making glass is neither half-full nor half-empty.
The Maven's assertion is that the Blueshirts glass is "three-quarters full – and heading toward the top."
Glass or no glass; jug or no jug, barrel or no barrel, Rubenstein disagrees in a number of languages starting with English.
"The Rangers roster," says Jess, "is enough to make one toss the glass out the window."
Obviously, the man is looking for a fight so – a la Matt Rempe – I'll let him throw the first punch. YO! GO!
"The Rangers roster is in bad need of group counseling. I've never seen a roster that's as emotionally fragile as the Rangers."
The Maven is quite content with the present roster now led by J.T. Miller and Vincent Trocheck. Jess isn't.
Rubenstein: "The Blueshirts still need a third-line center and improvements on the blue line. The question is, At what cost can Drury make any further trade improvements?
"Does he trade prospects such as Othmann, Perreault, Fortescue or Emery?" The Maven says that no trades are necessary.
"This roster," Rubenstein concludes, "will not make the playoffs unless it gets magnificent goaltending from Igor and Quick!"
