Here are some Rangers players to watch as the push for the playoffs really heats up.
In the Rangers quest for a playoff berth, the theme has to be ALL OR NOTHING AT ALL. In this case, the "All" includes every single roster member right down to Zac (I'm Still In The Doghouse) Jones and Jimmy (What Did I Do Wrong) Vesey.
So, once more The Maven hauls out the ever-reliable Thought-Recording Machine and tuning it to Peter Laviolette's brain waves. Here are his thoughts – fantasy, of course – that TRM found.
J.T. MILLER: "Geez, I only wish Chris Drury got him two months earlier. But he didn't and now I gotta hope he gets some of my totem poles to really move. (Yeah, Mika, that's You!) I like Miller's bite and I'd make him captain right now if I wasn't worried about hurting Trocheck's feelings."
JONNY BROZINKSKI: "I like Broz and wish I could give him more ice time. But he is what he is – a likeable grunt who'd go through the wall for me. Heck, I don't need walls broken, just a couple of goals here and there."
SAM CARRICK: "Drury figured he had to get someone to shut the fans up over our losing Goodrow. Sam's no Goodrow but he's as good a fourth-liner as we got – at least for now."
ARTHUR KALIYEV: "I hope Drury keeps him around 'cause I need a season to work with this guy. I could see him doing a good job on my third line. Now we gotta see if he's gonna hang around or not,"
MATT REMPE: "Okay, okay; I know I got ripped for not playing him enough after he became our rock star. Now he has to behave and know that his head-hunting days are over. With a little luck, I'll make him into a dozen-minute fourth-liner. (Shhh, miracles happen.")
RYAN LINDGREN: "He's our skating definition of attrition; reminds me of old Dan Girardi. Well, you can't throw your weight in front of pucks forever and not slow down. Let's face it, our warhorse is worn down. (Remember the song, 'The Old Gray Mare Ain't What She Used To Be?' That's our Ryan.")
BRADEN SCHNEIDER: "Whenever a GM phones Drury about a deal, half the time Schneider's name comes up. But Chris knows enough not even to discuss Braden. Heck, he's our present and future."
URHO VAAKANAINEN: "Anaheim blew it. We got a good one who's young enough to even get better. I can see him as one of our top six blueliners next season. (This kind of stealing is allowed.")
JONATHAN QUICK: "Drury got his money's worth with the vet and Shesterkin is lucky to have him as a backup. Personally, I'd like Jo back for another year and so would Shesty. And so should Drury!"
