Despite snapping a five-game losing streak on Saturday, there are still steps the Rangers need to take before reaching the next level.

Watching the Rangers these days is like looking at those bizarre, distorted mirrors at Coney Island's Fun House.

You study the Blueshirts and they look like a hockey team out there but the image comes out cockeyed as it did yesterday at The Garden.

Yeah, The Beloved Ones emerged with two points vs. Montreal, which is about as tasty as a week-old loaf of rye but it's Bread nonetheless. Minus the vitamins.

So, they got The W along with about two tons of skepticism.

For starters, the dubious defenseman and even-more-dubious captain Chief Petty Officer Jacob Trouba did his Matt Rempe imitation with a rousing fight. Except that the Chief Petty Officer lasted longer than Rempe on the best fight day Matt ever had.

If nothing else, it proved that Jake The Rake was IN the game and secondly it inspired the Rangers to great heights of barely winning the game against the NHL's worst team.

But there should be no complaints. We all should stand at attention and salute the Event Of The Week. Mika The Magician actually scored and The World's Most Famous Arena did not leave its moorings.

MSG did shake quite a bit with the Hollywood ending, which marked a milestone; 1,700 W's in Rangers history.

    Not too shabby.

Frankly, The Maven will be even more impressed if The Beloveds make it 1,701 tomorrow night on Seventh Avenue against the Devils!

Right now, I'm still trying to figure out what these Rangers look like; since the funny mirror is shaking all over the place!
