Peter Laviolette confirmed he does not plan on naming a new captain as of right now despite the loss of Jacob Trouba.
The New York Rangers are now without a captain after trading Jacob Trouba to the Anaheim Ducks.
However, Peter Laviolette has no plans to name a new captain as of right now.
“Not right now,” Laviolette said about if the Rangers have a timeline on naming a captain. “We’ve got a leadership group that we’ve been dealing with the whole time. Right now, we’re moving forward with that.”
Laviolette also does not envision adding another assistant captain .
The Rangers have a number of veteran players including Chris Kreider, Mika Zibanejad, Adam Fox, Vincent Trocheck and Artemi Panarin, so from a leadership standpoint New York will be ok despite the loss of Trouba.
While Trouba may have been a staple of the locker room, Laviolette feels the dynamic of the team won’t change without a captain.
“Like I’ve said we’ve been moving with a leadership group and so nothing changes in regard to that,” Laviolette said. “I’ve met with them and talked with them. I don’t think much will change.”
The current assistant captains are Fox, Kreider, Panarin and Zibanejad.
