The Anaheim Ducks swooped in and traded for Chris Kreider from the New York Rangers on Thursday.

Originally, the Ducks were actually on Kreider’s 15-team, no-trade list, but after doing his due diligence on Aniheim’s current situation, he decided to waive his no-move clause.

What led to this decision from Kreider?

According to Arthur Staple of The Athletic, there were several teams talking to the Rangers about Kreider, but going to Anaheim made the most sense to him due to the connection with some of his former teammates, the chance to play for head coach Joel Quenneville and the enticing young core.

Kreider joins his former Rangers teammates Jacob Trouba, Ryan Strome, and  Frank Vatrano with the Ducks.

The promising young talent on the Ducks roster includes Leo Carlsson, Mason McTavish, Cutter Gauthier, and Trevor Zegras.

Quenneville, a three-time Stanley Cup champion, was also brought in to establish a winning culture in Anaheim.

The Ducks are a team that seems to be looking to take a step in their rebuild and compete for the playoffs and acquiring Kreider proves the direction they are looking to go in.

Kreider’s desire to join the Ducks also shows the strong culture the organization is starting to build as the reputation around the franchise is beginning to change for the better.
