While the whole world was focused on J.T. Miller facing off against his former team on Saturday afternoon, Victor Mancini also had an emotional game.
Mancini played against the New York Rangers for the first time since being traded to the Vancouver Canucks as part of the Miller trade.
The 22-year-old forward was one of the biggest surprises to come out of training camp for the Rangers.
His impressive play through rookie camp and training camp earned him an unexpected yet well-deserved spot on New York’s opening night roster.
Through his 15 games with the Blueshirts this season, Mancini showed flashes of promise and seemed to be a player who could be a staple defenseman for the team in the future.
However, that thought was short-lived as the Canucks were intrigued by Mancini’s potential, which forced the Rangers to include him in the Miller trade.
Nonetheless, Mancini has nothing but love for the Rangers organization. He acknowledged that his time in New York allowed him to get to where he is today.
“So many good memories,” Mancini said of his time with the Rangers, via Peter Baugh of The Athletic. “They helped allow me to reach my potential. They gave me a shot, and I think I took advantage of it.”
According to Baugh, Mancini met Matt Rempe and Adam Edström for dinner on Friday night, showing the friendships that he had with the Rangers remain strong.
So far, Mancini has played in eight games for the Canucks where he’s recorded two points while averaging 14:57 minutes.
