Now that we all know that Kenny Albert will be Sam Rosen's replacement as Rangers play-by-play telecaster, MSG Networks must find someone to  move in where Joe Micheletti moved out.

The natural thing to do would be elevating Albert's longtime radio sidekick, former defenseman Dave Maloney. He's candid; concise and real!

Kenny's partner for years, Maloney would likely be Albert's personal choice but, in the end, it will be up to Network boss Andrea Greenberg to make the final decision with input from other MSG biggies.

"The problem with Maloney – if you can call it 'problem' – is that Dave is too honest," says The Old Scout. "He says what he thinks and he can be harsh with the Rangers when they stink out the joint."

Joe Micheletti was the perfect interlocutor when he worked alongside Sam Rosen. A former NHL player and coach, Joe M was a cool, calm, collected cat and one who'll be missed.

"The Network people might want someone less forceful than Maloney," adds The Old Scout. "There are plenty of others in the MSG stable."

And good men, too. Don LaGreca is one of the best as well as John Giannone; either of which would be The Maven's choice.

Others include Alex Faust, Ed Cohen and Steve Valiquette.

Should Maloney move up with Kenny, a replacement will be needed for the radio analyst role. That could be any of the above or someone from the outside such as former Ranger Peter Stemkowski who has been working in a pinch-hitting role for Maloney.

The Old Scout: "I can't see MSG picking anyone but Maloney. It would be the natural move."

    Time will tell.
