The Eeli Tolvanen signing could end up being a strong move for New York.

The New York Rangers picked up an impressive 5-1 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday night.

Eeli Tolvanen played a role in New York's victory, as he scored his first goal as a member of the Rangers. It was a bit of a wacky goal by the 27-year-old, as he threw the puck toward the net and it deflected in. Still, a goal is a goal, and Tolvanen helped give New York a 3-0 lead with it.

If Tolvanen can keep this kind of play up for New York, he could end up being a very good value signing for the Original Six club.

After spending over two months on the free agent market, Tolvanen signed a one-year, $1.5 million contract with the Rangers in early September. This has the potential to be a bargain for the Rangers.

Tolvanen already has some key roles in the Rangers' lineup, too. This is because he is playing on their third line with Will Cuylle and Noah Laba. He has also been playing on their penalty kill, so he is a player who the Rangers are already relying on.

Tolvanen has also shown during his career that he can provide decent offensive production and plenty of grit. Just last season with the Seattle Kraken, he recorded 12 goals, 36 points, and 187 hits. This was after he had 23 goals, 35 points, and 237 hits in 78 games for Seattle in 2024-25.

If Tolvanen can have similar numbers this season, it would be good for a Rangers club that is looking to get back into the playoffs.
