The Madison Square Garden publicists made the new massive Rangers' assistant coach hiring look good.

It starts with an on line photo of three handsome guys smiling – Quinn, Sacco and Henne, coach Mike Sullivan's new assistants.

But does Sully really need three aides? Remember the "Too Many Chiefs" line? (Could spoil the Blueshirts' already rancid broth.) The Maven says that it It sure applies here, doesn't it?

What To Make Of The Rangers' New Assistant Coaches What To Make Of The Rangers' New Assistant Coaches The Maven is the happiest guy in town now that David Quinn has been re-imported by the Rangers.

The smiles aren't exactly being flashed around the NHL and The Maven's fearless analyst Jess Rubenstein is here to explain why:

"David Quinn's failures with the Rangers and San Jose Sharks prove something about him," says Rubenstein. "As for Joe Sacco, he got passed over as head coach in Boston after giving that franchise eleven years."

Bear in mind this is the Boston College alumni bloc all over again; too much New England inbreeding. Nepotism, Inc. Old Boys Fraternity.

Rubenstein: "There's no diversity among this staff. So what happens when it comes time to disagree with the coach or Chris Drury? Will the new hires speak up or just be 'Yes Men'?

"How is it that NHL GMs are so afraid to hire the guy looking to make a reputation and

instead hire the retread who is living off one?

"Don't they know that only Scotty Bowman can jump from franchise to franchise and still win The Cup?"

P.S. The Rangers should have bypassed Sully and hired Marco Sturm. Lucky for the Bruins, the Beantowners grabbed him!

P.S.S. My Toronto Sun buddy columnist Steve Simmons rates Drury's trio-hire as A-!; so there!
