Tomorrow, May 25, 2025, marks the 31st anniversary of one of the most exciting moments in Rangers history.

It was a game Blueshirt fans will never forget because their club was on the brink of playoff elimination against the New Jersey Devils.

That morning the New York Post ran a story claiming that Messier "guaranteed" a victory.

To this day it remains debatable whether Mess actually delivered a guarantee or offered words that could be construed as one.

In retrospect, it no longer matters. The headline was real and so was the game.

New Jersey, playing at home, jumped into a 2-0 lead but New York's Alexei Kovalev beat Martin Brodeur late in the second period to cut the Devils' lead in half.

SHAZAM! Once the third period began, Messier took over, scoring three goals including the game-winner.

It enabled the Rangers to tie the series at 3-3 and set up a Game Seven which the Blueshirts won at home.

After that, Mess&Co. went on to win the 1994 Stanley Cup!
